Heather’s Song of the Day: Fire Escape

Fastball is one of my favorite bands from the 1990s. They broke into the big time in 1998 when their second album, All The Pain Money Can Buy, was released to rave reviews. The lead-off single, “The Way,” hit #1 on the US Modern Rock charts and the follow-up single, “Fire Escape,” reached #13. Even though the band has released three more excellent studio albums since All The Pain Money Can Buy, “Fire Escape” is still my favorite Fastball song. I think it has a lot to do with the track’s video. Ten years before Lady Gaga’s chilling performance of her song “Paparazzi” at the MTV Video Music Awards, Fastball made their statement about the downside of fame in the clip for “Fire Escape.” It is one of my all-time favorite music videos and I have made “Fire Escape” my Song Of The Day. Enjoy!
